California Highway Patrol officers in the San Francisco Bay Area seized more than 125 pounds of cannabis from a vehicle during a recent speed enforcement action.

CHP Contra Costa said Saturday that officers in the Contra Costa County area conducted a speed enforcement stop when they observed “large quantities of marijuana” inside the vehicle.

Photos shared by CHP show both the backseat and the trunk of the vehicle packed with several large garbage bags filled with marijuana. In total, the bags contained more than 125 pounds of cannabis.

Both the driver and the passenger, who were not named, were arrested on drug possession charges.

“This enforcement action highlights the ongoing efforts by the CHP to keep illegal substances off our roads and ensure public safety,” the agency said. “If you see suspicious activity or impaired driving, report it to your local CHP office or call 911.”
