Police in Texas are investigating after “numerous” homemade explosive devices were found in a wooded area near a city park on Sunday.

The Garland Police Department said officers responded at around 11:30 a.m. Sunday to reports of “suspicious items” in a wooded area near Wynne Park, in the area of West Centerville Road and South First Street, in Garland, a suburb of Dallas.

A person reported finding an open suitcase with items scattered nearby, including objects that appeared to be explosive devices.

The Garland Police Departments Bomb Unit and FBI bomb technicians responded to the scene, and determined that there were “numerous live homemade explosive devices near the suitcase.”

Bomb technicians worked “through the day and into the night” to render the devices inoperative and safe.

Local detectives and FBI investigators are working to determine the origin of the devices, and the possible intent of the suspect or suspects involved.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward or submit an anonymous tip.
