Nicolas Cage‘s wife Riko Shibata is trying to keep the actor calm as a giant sinkhole threatens to swallow up his $10.5 million Malibu mansion, a source tells the National Enquirer.
“Riko’s worried he’s going to drive himself crazy obsessing over this because he hates losing money,” says the source. “He just bought the place two years ago and this happens. He’s ranting and raving about being cursed.”
Photographs published by Page Six on September 8 show that the massive 25-foot-deep sinkhole has already taken the oceanfront property’s driveway.

“He spends most of his time in Vegas, so he’s having to deal with this whole headache from a distance and there’s so much red tape, he says he can’t get anything done,” the source reveals. “At this point, he doesn’t even know what else is wrong with it and what it’s going to mean as far as the loss of his property value. The place is potentially in total ruins.”
Cage’s terrible mood is also having a big impact on his marriage, says the Enquirer‘s source.

The National Treasure star, 62, wed Shibata, 31, at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas in February 2021 and the couple welcomed their first child together, son August, 4, in September 2022.
Cage also shares son Weston, 35, with ex-girlfriend Christina Fulton and son Kal-El, 21, with ex-wife Alice Kim.
“He’s just in such an angry headspace,” the source admits. “No one wants to be around him.”
Shibata is “doing her best to try and get him to see it’s not worth going crazy over,” adds the source. “But he’s so stressed and complaining non-stop, so she’s having no luck.”
