Authorities in Washington are searching for a suspect who fired multiple gunshots at deputies during a vehicle pursuit Thursday before fleeing on foot.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were alerted to a wanted felon traveling from Grays Harbor County into Thurston County at around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The suspect vehicle was spotted in the Tenino area, and a deputy attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle began to pull over, but then fled, leading deputies on a pursuit on Highway 507.

The pursuit continued to Military Road, where the occupants of the vehicle began throwing objects at the pursuing deputy. On Waldrick Road SE, the male passenger, identified as the wanted felon in the initial alert, fired multiple shots at pursuing deputies before throwing a firearm from the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office said one patrol car was struck by gunfire and disabled. The suspect vehicle nearly crashed before coming to a stop.

The male passenger, identified as Damien Madison, fled on foot. The female driver was taken into custody.

The sheriff’s office said in a news release Thursday evening that despite assistance from the Washington State Patrol, a King County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, a SWAT team, and a K9 tracker, Madison was not located.

The sheriff’s office warned the public that Madison, who remains at large, should be considered armed and dangerous. He was wanted on felony warrants for shooting at law enforcement.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about Madison’s whereabouts to call 911 immediately.
