An Oregon man was rescued Wednesday after he became trapped when his carport collapsed under heavy snow, officials said.

The Medford Fire Department said crews responded to a report of a person trapped in a structural collapse after a neighbor heard him calling for help and called 911. They arrived to find the man’s carport had collapsed under the weight of heavy snow, and he was trapped underneath.

Additional crews responded to the scene with technical rescue equipment to lift the fallen carport. Photos shared by the fire department show firefighters working in the snow to lift the collapsed roof far enough off the ground to extricate the man.

Once the man was removed, he was flown by Mercy Flights Inc. to a hospital for medical care.

“With heavy snowfall in our area, we urge everyone to stay aware of potential hazards. Avoid standing under snow-laden tree limbs, carports, awnings, and other structures that may be at risk of collapse,” the fire department said. “A big thank you to the quick-thinking neighbor who called 911 and to our dedicated crews for their swift response!”
