A husky that fell head-first into a mine on a Utah mountain over the weekend was safely rescued and reunited with his owner, officials said.
Tooele County Search and Rescue said crews responded at around 4:50 p.m. on Sept. 27 to a report that a dog had fallen head-first into a mine. The mine was located “high on the mountain” west of Grantsville.
Rescuers said the operation was a “challenge” due to the narrow mine opening and a lack of anchor points, and required some “creative rigging” to get a team member down to the dog’s location. The rescuer was able to create a “makeshift harness” to lift the husky out of the mine.

Photos shared by rescuers show a rescuer descending into an extremely narrow, dark opening in the rock. Another photo shows the dog appears entirely unharmed after being returned to the surface.
