In an era where schools face increasing educational demands and teacher shortages, some are tapping into the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to redefine the classroom experience.

MacKenzie Price, founder of 2hr Learning and Alpha Schools and host of the “Future of Education” podcast, has been steering efforts to integrate AI into education with striking outcomes.

AI-assisted learning personalizes education, providing students with tailor-fitted learning experiences that adapt to their pace and needs. This technology helps ensure students dont fall behind, offering immediate feedback and support. By automating routine tasks, AI frees teachers from the burdens of lesson planning and grading, allowing them to focus more on student engagement and mentorship.

“You cant hand a student an iPad and expect them to learn,” Price says. “You need a teacher there to help them through challenges, understand their passions, inspire their curiosity, recognize when they need a break and more. Our teachers figure out what motivates each child and help them on their journey.”

According to the company, Alpha School students learn twice as fast as their peers, and score in the top 1–2% nationally, with over 90% of students reporting a love for school, and 98% advancing to college. Alpha Brownsville, a notable success, moved its student body from the 31st percentile to the 86th percentile in a year, partly due to a collaboration with SpaceX. About half the students at the school are children of SpaceX employees, and half are from households living below the poverty line, with about two-thirds classified as diverse learners.

The changes at Alpha Schools not only champion academic excellence but also aim to nurture students holistically, emotionally, and motivationally. Teachers, with backgrounds as diverse as business executives and PhD candidates, are pivotal in this approach, focusing on “nurturing the whole child.” This model highlights the potential for AI to eventually reshape the educational landscape, making it more equitable and efficient.
