The Houston Police Department is seeking the public’s help identifying a suspect who followed an elderly woman home from the bank and robbed her in a crime known as “jugging.”

HPD’s Robbery Division on Monday released surveillance video of the suspect in a red SUV pulling behind the victim right after she parked at her apartment complex on the 6600 block of Sam Houston Parkway shortly before 1 p.m. on April 1, blocking her in. The suspect exits the SUV and opens the elderly victim’s passenger-side door and snatches her purse before fleeing the scene.

Police said that before the robbery, the victim had withdrawn money from the Wells Fargo Bank branch at 9702 Bellaire Boulevard. Investigators believe the suspect followed the victim home from the bank in order to rob her, in a crime known as “jugging,” when suspects follow unsuspecting victims from banks or high-end stores.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic man, weighing around 170 pounds and wearing all black. The suspect’s vehicle is a red Ford SUV with a fake license plate.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers of Houston anonymously. A reward of up to $5,000 is available for information leading to the suspect’s arrest.
