A former Florida sheriff’s deputy was arrested over the weekend for allegedly robbing a bank, police said.

The Ocala Police Department said officers responded at around 9:30 a.m. May 3 to a TD Bank branch on Southeast 17th Street in Ocala following a report of a robbery. Before officers arrived, the suspect fled the scene with more than $5,000.

Investigators learned the suspect passed a note to the bank teller stating she was armed with a gun.

Officers located the suspect, later identified as 40-year-old Christina Gates Thagard, “within 11 minutes,” police said. She was spotted driving westbound on Southwest College Road.

A video shared by the police department shows her arrest on the busy road. Police said evidence connected to the robbery, including cash, clothing, a medical glove and other items were found in her vehicle. Surveillance images and witness statements identified her as the suspect.

Thagard, a former deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, was booked into Marion County Jail on a charge of robbery with a firearm.
