The Transportation Security Administration is asking travelers to “stop hiding animals in weird places” after a woman was allegedly caught trying to hide two pet turtles in her bra at Florida’s Miami International Airport.
The TSA said a Florida woman recently tried to sneak a pair of turtles through the security checkpoint at Miami International Airport by stuffing them inside her brassiere — a baffling move considering the reptiles are generally allowed on flights if carried appropriately.
The agency shared photos of the turtles, one of which appeared to be wrapped in a cloth bandage and the other in plastic wrap. The agency said that “sadly,” one of the turtles did not survive.
“We want you to be able to travel with your pets, and you turtle-ly can, but please travel with them safely,” the TSA said. “Small pets are allowed through our checkpoint but must be removed from any carriers and carried through the checkpoint (notice we said ‘carried’ and not ‘hidden underneath your clothing’).”
The surviving turtle was turned over to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
