A Virginia bridge was shut down in both directions early Tuesday after two tractor-trailers involved in an accident caught fire, officials said.

The Chesapeake Fire Department said firefighters responded at around 3:50 a.m. to the Gilmerton Bridge following multiple 911 calls about a vehicle on fire. They arrived to find two tractor-trailers involved in an accident had been engulfed in flames and quickly searched to ensure all the occupants got out.

Photos shared by the fire department show large fires on the bridge, with at least one trailer completely destroyed by the flames.

Chesapeake Police were directing motorists to alternate routes while the bridge remained closed for cleanup.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the accident and fire remains under investigation.
