Federal authorities in Texas on Monday said they thwarted a “mass casualty attack” targeting a local police department.

The Corpus Christi Police Department said 21-year-old Seth “Andrea” Gregori was arrested Monday following an FBI investigation into “terroristic threats” against the department’s officers.

The FBI said Gregori was allegedly planning “an attack on police similar to the 2016 Dallas ambush.” In that incident, former U.S. Army reservist Micah Xavier Johnson killed five Dallas police officers and injured seven others in an ambush-style shooting, and told hostage negotiators he wanted to kill white people, particularly police officers. Johnson was ultimately killed by police.

The FBI was notified of Gregori making threats against Corpus Christi Police officers, and secured a warrant for his arrest on suspicion of making terroristic threats.

“The Corpus Christi Police Department greatly appreciates the assistance of our local, state, and federal partners in helping to keep our community safe,” police said. “Their support is vital to helping us accomplish our mission to reduce crime, the fear of crime, and enhance public safety.”
