Police in New York say an AWOL alpaca was safely captured after it escaped its trailer on Thursday.

The Westchester County Police Department said a 911 caller reported seeing a llama on the loose on Kisco Avenue in Mount Kisco shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday.

“Turns out it was an actually an alpaca that was on the lam, but still a pretty good initial description compared to some we get,” police said. Officers Mirko and Rodriguez quickly responded and were able to safely capture the alpaca.

Investigators learned the alpaca escaped its trailer near Hotel MTK on Pat Reilly Way. It then headed to Kisco Avenue near a Land Rover dealership.

The alpaca was transported to the Green Street Precinct, where it was reunited with its “grateful” owner, police said.

“Were taking a guess here, but we think somewhere theres a kid’s birthday party that went on just as planned,” police joked.
