A motorist in Maine sustained “severe and life-threatening injuries” when he crashed his pickup truck into a home this week, and authorities say speed was likely a factor.

The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded along with the Sweden Fire Department to a report of a vehicle crashing into a house on Lovell Road in Sweden shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday night.

Photos shared by the sheriff’s office show a 2020 Ford F-250 pickup truck wrecked outside a two-story home. The truck penetrated an exterior wall, and the home’s brick chimney collapsed onto the truck.

According to the sheriff’s office, the driver of the truck, “drove through the intersection at a high rate of speed” before crashing into the house.

There was no one inside the house at the time of the crash, and there were no passengers in the truck. The driver sustained “severe and life-threatening injuries” and was transported to Bridgton Hospital by ambulance before being flown by Life Flight to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

The sheriff’s office said the crash remains under investigation, but that it appears speed was likely a factor.
