A Washington motorist was hospitalized Wednesday after experiencing a medical emergency while driving and crashing into a home

Central Pierce Fire and Rescue said crews were dispatched at around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a vehicle crashing into a home on the 3800 block of 246th Street Court East in Spanaway. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office and Washington State Patrol also responded to the scene.

The driver was extricated from the pickup truck and was transported to a hospital with injuries described by firefighters as “serious” and by troopers as “minor.”

Washington State Trooper John Dattilo said the victim was driving north when a medical emergency caused the truck to “leave the road and crash through the back wall of someone’s garage.”

No one was inside the home at the time of the crash. Firefighters said crews were working to stabilize the garage, but the damage did not extend into the primary areas of the house.
