A Washington man is facing charges for allegedly rear-ending a motorcycle, then running over the motorcyclist, in a DUI road rage incident on Saturday, authorities said.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a serious injury collision near Scott Lake, just south of Olympia, on Sunday. They arrived to learn a car rear-ended a motorcyclist, who hit the car’s windshield. The driver continued driving, and slammed the brakes to launch the motorcyclist off the car, then proceeded to run the motorcyclist over.

The car fled, dragging the motorcycle a few hundred feet before the driver finally fled on foot, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies and K9 Asher tracked the suspect but had not caught up to him after an hour. They remained in the area searching, and eventually located the suspect running down a street.

Sheriff Derek Sanders said he was on his way back from a community event when he caught up with the arresting deputies. Sanders shared a video of the arrest on Facebook, and said the suspect showed signs of impairment.

The driver was arrested and booked into jail on charges of vehicular assault, felony hit and run and DUI, along with an unrelated domestic violence burglary case from 2024.
