A Connecticut teen was arrested Wednesday after allegedly driving at speeds of 132 mph and leading police on a pursuit on Interstate 91 because he was late for a job interview, authorities said.

The Connecticut State Police said a trooper assigned to Troop H in Hartford was conducting motor vehicle enforcement in the area of Exit 22 southbound in Cromwell when they spotted a Mercedes E300 traveling well over 100 mph at around 8:54 a.m. on June 4. Using a speed laser unit, the vehicles speed was confirmed to be 132 mph.

When the trooper attempted to pull the vehicle over with lights and sirens, the driver failed to stop and instead accelerated, allegedly weaving in and out of traffic and making unsafe lane changes. Due to the risk to public safety, the trooper ultimately terminated the pursuit.

Investigators later contacted the registered owner of the vehicle, who stated that a family member had been driving at the time of the incident. The driver was identified as Azmir Djurkovic, 19, of Cromwell.

When troopers reached Djurkovic by phone, he allegedly admitted to driving the vehicle and said he fled because he was late for a job interview. He agreed to meet troopers in Hartford, where he was arrested without incident.

Djurkovic now faces multiple charges, including reckless driving, disobeying the signal of an officer, engaging police in a pursuit, reckless endangerment in the first degree, interfering with an officer, and several motor vehicle violations such as unsafe passing and failure to maintain lane.

He was released on a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court on June 17.
