THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS

description

Wow, what a year as YOU, the new breed of ENQUIRER reader, read it here FIRST – again & AGAIN!  Here now, The ENQUIRER scoops that shook the world in 2010!

In 2010, The ENQUIRER was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize – the nation’s most prestigious journalistic award – for a series of groundbreaking articles on JOHN EDWARDS‘ shocking extramarital affair and its explosive consequences.

But that was just the beginning. Again and again in the past year, The ENQUIRER led the pack with blockbuster exclusives on major stars, personalities and politicians.

Here are just some of our spectacular scoops for 2010:

The ENQUIRER continued to beat the competition in its investigation of the Edwards scandal, which we first broke in 2007. In 2010, we were the first to reveal the sad news that wife ELIZABETH‘s heroic battle with breast cancer was coming to an end. She died on Dec. 7.

In January, ABC’s Nightline said of our remarkable coverage: "Of course, Mr. Edwards described the paper as ‘tabloid trash.’ But it seems they were right all along."

The ENQUIRER recently broke the tragic news that music icon ARETHA FRANKLIN was battling pancreatic cancer and had only about six months to live. The beloved68-year-old Queen of Soul had been hiding her deadly illness from her millions of fans. The disease is the same one that tragically struck down PATRICK SWAYZE and MICHAEL LANDON.

MARIAH CAREY‘s happy hubby NICK CANNON boasts President Obama and first lady Michelle were among the first to be informed that the 41-year-old singer was expecting twins. BUT ENQUIRER readers had been given the same "top secret" baby info back in June! "Mariah is gushing that she’s going to have twins," an insider told The ENQUIRER months before the rest of media followed our scoop.

The ENQUIRER stunned the world in early February with the first and only photo of TIGER WOODS in sex rehab – after being ordered there by his livid wife ELIN. We took readers inside the secret therapy sessions at the facility where treatment costs up to $60,000 for six weeks.  It was a fitting follow-up for The ENQUIRER, which – in one of the biggest celebrity bombshells in history – broke the news of Tiger’s infidelities and exposed him as a serial cheater.

It’s been a year of joy and scandal for JOHN TRAVOLTA, and we were the first to reveal that a baby was on the way for him and his wife KELLY PRESTON. The ENQUIRER also broke the news that the actor was dropping the extortion case in the Bahamas connected to his son JETT‘s tragic death. Finally, in October we were the first to report about a bombshell new book that claims Travolta was having gay sex in Hollywood spa. Travolta denied these claims.

LARRY KING
was recently feted on air by the royalty of show business and the glitterati of politics as he retired from his CNN show after 25 years. But in January 2010, we disclosed a far darker side of the talk-show king – revealing shocking accusations from his sister-in-law SHANNON ENGEMANN that he had a three-year affair with her. And in June, we disclosed that Larry’s wife SHAWN was rushed to a hospital – and sent to a psych ward – after overdosing on prescription drugs. The 911 audio tape was preemed online.

Some of the other big ENQUIRER exclusive stories of 2010 include:

A devastated MARIE OSMOND was battered by her husband BRIAN BLOSIL – he was also targeted by a government probe amidst chilling charges he sexually and physically abused one of their children.

MAD MEL GIBSON’s bloody, violent relationship and split from his Russkie baby mamma Oksana Grigorieva.

KELSEY GRAMMER‘s outrageous cheating, bizarre secret life and ugly divorce.

TONY CURTIS dumps daughter JAMIE LEE CURTIS from his will after she refuses to reconcile with him following years of estrangement.

After The ENQUIRER was the first to break these stories, each one of them was widely copied by other publications and websites.

The Huffington Post, one of the nation’s biggest Internet news sites, summed it up best, saying The ENQUIRER pursues the big stories "especially well."

It noted that "the system is simple: Attack celebrity stories with all the vigor of The Washington Post uncovering Watergate."

In 2011, we pledge to our readers that we will continue to get the BIG stories first.
