The superstar singer, who has been trying to get pregnant since marrying Nick Cannon more than two years ago, is teaming with fashion designer Linda Stokes to market a line of apparel for the "average pregnant woman," insiders tell The ENQUIRER. They plan to distribute the line through discount retailers such as Target and WalMart.
Although some of those close to Mariah, 41, insist she’s already pregnant – and recent photos show a growing belly – she and Nick, 30, have refused to confirm the rumor publicly. The two have been evasive because of Mariah’s history of miscarriages, added a close friend.
Despite the silence, Mariah has been busy preparing for a new baby.
"Mariah was frustrated with the maternity clothes on the market," explained the friend. "She said pregnancy is an incredibly special time in a woman’s life and that she was disappointed in the lack of styles for expectant mothers."
Linda is a close friend of Mariah and has worked with music A-listers, including Jennifer Lopez, Cher, Janet Jackson and Sean "Diddy" Combs.
"Mariah said most maternity dress designs today are either flowing tents or made of clingy, belly-hugging, spandex-type material that she said she refuses to wear when she’s pregnant," added the friend. "She said the outfits make her feel like an elephant in high heels."
Mariah and Linda intend to keep the focus on practicality, and the pal said some of the maternity dresses and tops will be wearable after the expectant mother delivers.
