“It came from God,” says Brian, when asked about the inspiration behind the Beach Boys’ beloved 1966 album, which served as inspiration for the 2013 biopic “Love & Mercy.”

As for the music’s route? “Through my head into my pants onto the piano keys,” said Brian, 75, who continues to perform despite crippling back pain.
The musician, who says he still suffers from the auditory hallucinations that started after he took psychedelic drugs in the ’60s, also offers this advice to musicians: “Don’t take drugs. Try to write a song, but not on drugs.”
