CBP Seizes 37 Pounds Of Cocaine At Texas Border, 2 Mexican Citizens Arrested

U.S. Customs and Border Protection this week announced the seizure of more than $498,000 worth of cocaine and the arrests of two Mexican nationals at the Texas border.

CBP Office of Field Operations officers at the Laredo Port of Entry’s Juarez-Lincoln Bridge on Friday referred a a 2020 Honda CR-V sport utility vehicle for secondary inspection. Officers using a non-intrusive inspection system and canines discovered 15 suspicious packages hidden within the vehicle.

The packages contained 37 pounds of alleged cocaine, carrying an estimated street value of $498,940.

CBP seized the drugs and the vehicle. A 70-year-old male Mexican citizen driver and a 49-year-old male Mexican citizen passenger were arrested by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents, who launched a criminal investigation.

“The experience and tenacity of our frontline CBP officers combined with the effective use of non-intrusive inspection system technology resulted in the takedown of this load of cocaine,” Port Director Albert Flores, Laredo Port of Entry, said in a statement.
