Carol Burnett Wonders Whether Lorne Michaels Is ‘Misogynistic’ For Never Asking Her to Host ‘SNL’

Carol Burnett has never hosted Saturday Night Live throughout its 50-year history — which is one fact that may sound surprising to most.

The 92-year-old legendary comedian got candid about never getting her shot to emcee the iconic late-night sketch show and wondered why creator Lorne Michaels has never asked her to get on stage.

“I don’t know what I did to upset that man,” she explained to The New Yorker in a new profile that was released on Monday, September 29.

“Do you think it’s misogynistic?” Burnett inquired to reporter Rachel Syme.

The funnywoman appeared on the show just once back in 1985 when she made a quick cameo during a sketch. The episode was hosted by actor and magician Harry Anderson at the time.

Burnett previously explained to Fox News in 2023 why she doesn’t care about hosting SNL.

“I would not be interested,” she said. “That’s all I can say.”

In 2016, the Emmy winner chatted with Larry King on Larry King Now when the topic turned to her never hosting the show. “You’re kidding. They’ve never had Carol?” he asked Burnett. “Would you host it? You should host it.”

Burnett then bluntly replied: “If I was asked.”

SNL hit the NBC airwaves in 1975 and has since stayed a pop culture landmark on television. Michaels has been at the reins since then and continues to this day.

The book Saturday Night: A Backstage History of Saturday Night Live — which was released in 2014 — claimed that Michaels often described outdated sketch ideas as “That’s Carol Burnett.”
