A nurse practitioner with millions of views on TikTok says the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services asking the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to study vaccines and autism is leaving many people with questions.

Efrat LaMandre, PhD, FNP-C, a certified family nurse practitioner known as “Dr. E, the NP with the PhD,” says mistrust and a lack of information lie at the heart of the current vaccine debate, which is only expected to grow worse in the coming months and years.

The CDC will reportedly conduct the study using the Vaccine Safety Datalink, which tracks vaccine safety, though the agency has previously published multiple studies looking for a link between vaccines and autism, including by using large data sets like the Vaccine Safety Datalink, that found no evidence of such a link.

LaMandre has gained a significant following on TikTok, with over 670,000 followers and extensive engagement, and uses her platform to educate the public about the science behind vaccines. She addresses why there is public mistrust, and how people can make smart choices for themselves and their families.

LaMandre, author of the best-selling book, “It’s Not In Your Head,” about medical gaslighting and the legitimacy of patient symptoms, says there should be a lot more honesty on all sides of the debate.

Well-versed in the intricacies of vaccine hesitancy and skepticism — part of a broader distrust of the medical and pharmaceutical industry despite modern advancements in medicine — she says public health institutions should do more to listen and respond with evidence-based information.
