Younger generations don’t remember a time when friends and family could meet their loved ones at the airport arrival gate, or keep them company until boarding, but guest pass programs adopted in recent years aim to let approved guests do just that.

With the introduction of Visitor Passes at select airports, approved guests can go through security and explore the diverse culinary offerings available within airport terminals, providing a nostalgic opportunity to greet loved ones at the gate or spend extra time with family and friends before a flight.

Prior to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, before the creation of the Transportation Security Administration, anyone could enter an airport terminal to accompany travelers, not just ticketed passengers. Now, some airports are offering the opportunity for non-ticketed guests to access terminals.

By applying through participating airport protocols and receiving Transportation Security Administration approval, guests can enjoy airport dining options, including those operated by award-winning travel retailer and restaurateur Paradies Lagardère. The initiative has proven popular, offering a chance to savor culinary delights without the need for travel.

At Palm Springs International Airport, visitors can relax in an outdoor courtyard featuring Coachella Valley Coffee and Las Casuelas, serving local lattes and authentic Mexican cuisine. Cactus to Clouds provides craft cocktails and California-style breakfast, while Nine Cities Craft offers Coachella Valley flavors and locally sourced craft beers.

San Antonio International Airport offers a breakfast date option with B.O.S.S. Bagels, combining New York and Montreal styles with a Texan twist. Guests can also enjoy barbecue from Smoke Shack and locally crafted brews at Beercode Kitchen & Bar.

Detroit Metropolitan Airport features national brands like Qdoba and P.F. Changs, alongside chef-driven offerings such as Cat Coras Taproom and local favorite Atwater Brewery, which pays tribute to Detroits spirit with its fare and beers.

At Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and Philadelphia International Airport, Vino Volo locations invite guests to sample wine flights, local beers, and craft cocktails while waiting for a flight.

For those looking to extend time with far-flung friends and family, Visitor Pass airport dining options offer a unique way to make the most of a visit.
