6 Injured, 24 Homes Damaged In Austin Explosion

Six people were injured and 24 homes were damaged in a residential explosion in Austin, Texas, on Sunday, officials said.

The Austin Fire Department said multiple 911 callers reported the home explosion in northwest Austin at around 11:23 a.m. Sunday. Firefighters arrived to find a two-story home “completely leveled by the explosion” and a neighboring home with “significant structural collapse.” A vehicle was also on fire at the site of the explosion.

Two people were extricated from the primary residence, one in critical condition and one in serious condition. One person was extricated from the neighboring home in critical condition. Another adult with minor injuries refused transport to the hospital, and two firefighters sustained minor injuries.

In total, 24 homes in the area were damaged, fire officials said. Homes on multiple streets were affected, including Spicewood Mesa, Pantera Ridge, and Muley Drive.

Fire officials said the cause of the explosion is under investigation.
