A huge alligator was recently wrangled in North Carolina and “cited” for infractions including obstructing traffic, authorities said.

The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission responded to Old 30 Road east of Jacksonville on May 28 after witnesses reported an alligator “was just chilling and snapping, clearly ignoring the ‘no loitering or lounging on roadways’ sign,” the sheriff’s office said.

The “prehistoric perp,” dubbed Pepe, measured nearly 10 feet long and weighed an estimated 350–400 pounds, according to the sheriff’s office.

Pepe the Gator was “cited for Suspicion of Being a Dinosaur Without Proper Papers, Public Loitering with Intent to Sunbathe, and Obstructing Traffic,” the sheriff’s office joked alongside photos.

“Deputies reported no injuries, unless you count his pride when the gator refused to be cuffed,” the sheriff’s office said.

Authorities said the alligator was safely relocated.
