One person was killed and another was injured in a fire at an indoor gun range in Washington Sunday evening, officials said.

The Tacoma Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at the Bulls Eye Indoor Pistol Range on the 400 block of Puyallup Avenue at around 6:15 p.m. Sunday. The shooting range was open when the fire broke out, and an employee helped some occupants safely escape the building, according to investigators.

“There’s ammunition in the building, so of course when our crews immediately went in to try and find the victims, there was ammunition going off in the fire,” TFD spokesperson Chelsea Shepherd told KOMO News.

Firefighters searching the building found one person deceased and one person injured. The injured victim was transported to a hospital, though the nature and severity of their injuries was not immediately released.

The deceased victim was not immediately identified, including whether they were an employee or customer.

The fire department said it is investigating the cause of the fire, while the Tacoma Police Department is investigating “details surrounding the deceased victim.”
