Frail film legend Jerry Lewis made an appearance at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City — and insisted on fighting his way to the stage! The stricken comic turned 90 years old on March 16, 2016, with insiders insisting that Jerry is in his sad final days. But the funnyman is determined to go out in the spotlight!
Jerry was attending a post-screening Q&A for his film "Max Rose," which he filmed back in 2013. "It was heartbreaking to see," an eyewitness told
The National ENQUIRER. "Jerry was obviously struggling just to make it into the theater. He looked like he was ready to pass out at any moment!"
"But then," added the audience member, "Jerry saw that they were setting up his chair at the foot of the stage. The MOMA staff obviously didn't want him to have to try and get up the steps — but Jerry wasn't having any of that! He insisted on getting taken up to the stage, and seemed to suddenly come alive!"
Amazingly, Jerry is getting great reviews for his role as a grieving retired jazz musician trying to solve a mystery about his ex-wife. It won't be his final film, either!
Jerry has another upcoming movie — starring as the sickly father of cop Nicolas Cage in the upcoming crime thriller "The Trust!"
“Jerry is insisting on performing to the very end," a close pal told The ENQUIRER. "That’s how much of a trouper he is! He doesn’t need the money. He’s worth a reported $50 million, but he needs to hear the applause a few final times before he meets his Maker!"
The insider added: "He’s joked, ‘I’ll die onstage – in the middle of a joke.’ But the fact is, it’s a struggle to go on!”
