Mel B has regrets — namely, that she didn’t fight for the man of her dreams. In an upcoming interview she did for Piers Morgan’s Life Stories on ITV, she reveals that ex-boyfriend Eddie Murphy is the one who got away.

“We had something special that I’ve never really truly felt with anybody else,” she says in the chat obtained by The Mirror. “I’ve thought I’ve had it, but they’ve lied. His was pure. He is the love of my life, he always will be.”

“He showed me what true love feels like, and for that, I have the utmost admiration and respect for him,” she added.

She shared that she knew their relationship — which started in 2006 and lasted only about a year — would be the real deal. “When we first met, I saw him across the room. He saw me and then I freaked out because I’ve never had somebody look at me like that,” she recalled. “It was such a familiar look, as in, it felt like home. I could see my soulmate.”

The former Spice Girl known as Scary Spice also revealed that the actor was a romantic gentleman who once flew her to Mexico hours after she mentioned she’d like to go on a weekend getaway together. They even discussed marriage after just dating for a few months, with the comedian, 58, asking for her dad’s permission to propose.

“He asked my dad if he could take his daughter’s hand in marriage,” she dished to Life Stories, according to The Mirror. “He flew my dad in and asked him properly. … Then we designed some rings together, and then we planned the baby and we got pregnant — and then I felt suffocated.”

The performer then moved Leeds, England, hoping he’d come and win her back. He didn’t. Not only did he not go after her, he made a shocking statement about her pregnancy while promoting a movie.

“I don’t know whose child that is until it comes out and has a blood test,” Murphy said of the child the singer was carrying. “You shouldn’t jump to conclusions.”

“We were both to blame,” she admitted during the interview of him questioning the paternity of their daughter, Angel, who was born in April 2007, five months after they split. “I wouldn’t have said that publicly, and he apologizes to this day about that. He wishes he never said it, because the baby was planned — we planned that baby together and we were madly in love, and it just went wrong, dramatically went wrong.”

A DNA test did later confirm that Murphy is Angel’s father.

Both Mel B and Murphy have since moved on, with the former Spice Girl marrying Stephen Belafonte, from whom she finalized her divorce in 2018 after a decade of marriage. The comedian is engaged to Paige Butcher, with whom he shares two of his 10 total children.
